While I've discussed American politics and voting in quite a number of previous articles, I felt that now would be a good time to review some of my personal thoughts regarding this issue. However, there's a specific reason for my doing this. Lately, I have noticed some talk, and some concern, that in November of 2026, the Democrats may sweep the midterms due to some of President Trump’s unpopular policies, practices and pronouncements -- beginning with the Iran War -- and his drastically falling popularity. If the figures I have seen recently are true, it seems that Trump's popularity rating has now dropped to 40%-45% at best. But now if a Democratic sweep should occur, exactly how should we Christians react to such a Democratic victory? Allow me to share my personal thoughts with you for your consideration.

As we all know, or at least should know as Christians, just like any other political season and election which comes and goes, the US midterms are totally in God’s hands, because as you may already know, according to the Holy Bible, it is God alone who raises up and puts down national leaders according to His divine will and purposes. Whatever the Lord wants to happen, will most assuredly happen, despite the machinations of wicked men who may try to manipulate the electoral votes. This Scriptural truth becomes quite evident in Bible verses such as the following:

"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake."
Romans 13:1-5, KJV

"Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another."
Psalm 75:5-7, KJV

"By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth."
Proverbs 8:15-16, KJV

"Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:"
Daniel 2:20-21, KJV

"This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men."
Daniel 4:17, KJV

"I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me."
Jeremiah 27:5, KJV

"The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will."
Proverbs 21:1, KJV

"For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king. And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice. Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD. And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel."
1 Samuel 15:23-26, KJV

"And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost."
Acts 12:21-23, KJV

Thus, in light of the previous group of Bible verses, it is my personal view that as dreadful of a thought as it may be for some Christians to ponder, we need to recognize that if the Democrats do return to power, then we can only conclude that it must have been by God’s own design. After all, for any of us to believe otherwise, is to be playing cafeteria with the Scriptures. In other words, my friends, we cannot say that God raised up this leader who we like, but He did not raise up that other one who we really don't like. That would be hypocritical and practicing a double standard on our part. So either God is truly in full control or else He is not in control at all.

Personally, I have no doubt whatsoever that God does in fact remain sovereign and in complete control over the affairs of mortal men. As we learned just a moment ago in the Book of the Prophet Daniel, "the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men". Certain powerful people in this world may think that they are in control, but that is just foolish, vain and proud thinking. In addition, the Prophet Isaiah likewise wrote the following very powerful truth by inspiration of God's Holy Spirit:

"Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I WILL DO ALL MY PLEASURE:"
Isaiah 46:9-10, KJV

Assuming that the Democrats do take the 2026 midterms, then the next question we need to ask ourselves is why God might possibly allow it to happen. As ungodly as some of them are, why would the Lord permit the Democrats to return to power? If you have read Bill's Bible Basics articles such as "The Fruits of Disobedience", then you may know that God's Word offers us a very clear answer to this important question. If we go by the Scriptural precedents, then such an electoral victory by such an ungodly party could possibly indicate the Lord's intention to use the Democrats as His divine tool of chastisement against a rebellious nation which has in large part turned away from God, abandoned His holy ways, and in fact embraced certain things which are quite displeasing to Him, and in fact, even an abomination in His sight. In other words, in the Bible, God often used the wicked, unbelieving, pagan nations to punish the Israelites for their many sins.

As you may know, for many years now, I have spoken about and likewise written about America's backslidden condition, and the spiritual sickness which now plagues her from shore to shore. Furthermore, as I explain in articles such as "Don't Ever Underestimate Our Spiritual Enemy", while I obviously do not know the Lord's specific timetable, I am convinced -- and have been convinced for quite some time now -- that the judgment of America may very well be pending. In my opinion, there is just too much wickedness and evil now occurring in our country, for our righteous God to continue ignoring our nation's stiff-necked and proud rebellion for much longer. In fact, my friends, very similar to rebellious, backslidden Israel of old, I am reminded of the following Bible verses which expose her rebellion, her refusal to repent, and her internal spiritual rot:

"Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward. Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment."
Isaiah 1:4-6, KJV

Regarding America's specific sins which beg God's judgments, I am sure that we all already know what they are. As such, I shouldn't really need to list them out for you. However, if you do require some help, you will find many other articles on the Bill's Bible Basics website where I address the sins of modern-day America. At any rate, these are just some of my personal thoughts for my online friends to consider. But regardless of what happens with the upcoming 2026 election, or even with any other election which occurs at some point in the future for that matter, I urge all of my dear friends to please always remember that God remains in complete control of the situation. Continue to trust Him, and let His peace reign in your hearts. As the Prophet Isaiah and other Bible authors wrote:

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."
Isaiah 26:3, KJV

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
Isaiah 41:10, KJV

"And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:7, KJV

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
2 Timothy 1:7, KJV

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love."
1 John 4:18, KJV

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
John 14:27, KJV

"Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them."
Psalm 119:165, KJV

"So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me."
Hebrews 13:6, KJV

"The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them."
Psalm 34:7, KJV
