DEATH ON WHEELS
by Bill Kochman
10-05-2025
Now quite a few decades ago,
Before greed came to the fore,
Cars were made so much better,
Though mileage was quite poor.
They were built like a tank,
Thick, heavy metal all around,
Offering a driver protection,
They were vehicles quite sound.
But then something bad happened,
As better mileage was in demand,
So manufacturers took a shortcut,
And they really got out of hand.
After thinking on it for a while,
Lighter materials was their ploy,
Plastics and aluminum were used,
Our cars were now just like a toy.
You see, before drivers were safe,
If they got into some auto wreck,
A car would suffer minimal damage,
Don't believe me? Just go check.
Sure, some people died back then,
Yes, that's always been the case,
But so many more folks die today,
In part due to the mileage race.
Today even the slightest impact,
Can seriously damage a modern car,
It will fold up like an accordion,
You're trapped like a bug in a jar.
Indeed it can be death on wheels,
If a bad accident comes your way,
So before you even begin to drive,
I hope you take some time to pray.
