FAME GAME

by Bill Kochman

04-17-2014

In our fallen world, everywhere it's the same,
People so obsessed, with trying to make a name.
But how some go about it, is really a shame,
Power sex and money, are tools in their game.
Climbing over others, to grasp elusive fame,
No one is concerned, no one takes the blame.

In a crazy struggle, striving for their goal,
Caring for their body, but denying their soul.
But alas such madness, will surely take a toll,
Some die in the process, and end up in a hole.
Forget their foolish game, let go of the pole,
Better turn to Jesus, let Him make you whole.

Bible Study Resources:

If you are wondering about the reference to a pole in this poem, some of you will be familiar with the old game/dance called "limbo". This game employed the use of a pole or bar called the limbo stick. The goal was to slip under the stick without falling down or touching the pole. As the game or dance advanced with each participant, the stick was lowered more and more towards the ground, so that the person had to lower himself and bend backwards more and more, as he scooted forward, so as to not touch the stick.

In the world's fame game, many people do the very same thing. In other words, to achieve more and more success, they must be willing to lower and abase themselves more and more. They are forced to abandon their personal morals, and all sense of decency, in order to be rewarded with money and fame.

We see this so often with popular music artists, unHolywood celebs, etc. Young women learn quick that if they want to make it big in the movies, they must be willing to sell their souls, and become little whores who bare their flesh for the big movie moguls. Sad, isn't it?

Sadder still is the fact that once such women reach the age of 30 or 40, unHolywood considers them has-beens, because they no longer have any sex appeal for the younger crowd, who form the upcoming money market. It is such a superficial world.
