SAD KING SAUL

by Bill Kochman

04-15-2014

God measures us not, by the color of our skin
Nor by our social status, He looks deep within.
Money fame and power, are the standards of men,
God wants obedience, going when He says when.

Yielding to His Will, is what God desires most,
Giving Him the glory, without a single boast.
Saul failed to do it, he went ahead of the Lord,
Thinking he knew better, ignored Samuel's word.

In his foolish rebellion, King Saul lost it all,
Struck down in a battle, on his sword he did fall.
King David was wiser, a man after God's own heart,
So from his house, the kingdom did not depart.

Bible Study Resources:

This poem is based on the sad story of King Saul. Following are some of the key verses which are used in this poem:

"But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart."
1 Samuel 16:7, KJV

"And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king."
1 Samuel 15:22-23, KJV

"Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it."
1 Samuel 31:4, KJV
