THE GOOD LIFE
by Bill Kochman
02-10-2023
You tell me that you are just fine,
You don't need any God in your life,
You've got a nice job, home and car,
Plus there are kids and a pretty wife.
All of your friends totally adore you,
They think you are so really cool,
You hang out together on weekends,
Drinking beer by your swimming pool.
Money has never been a big problem,
You will even splurge now and then,
But clearly something is missing,
You need to think this over again.
Your life may now seem so perfect,
You worked hard to get to the top,
But someday you will be surprised,
When your ticker comes to a stop.
Even though you may now deny Him,
You will then stand before the Lord,
He will look in His book of records,
And know that Him you have ignored.
No, your friends will not be around,
Not your wife, or even one single kid,
Just you alone under God's spotlight,
As He takes account of all you did.
He will say, yes, you led a good life,
You were a good husband, father too,
You worked so honestly at your job,
And poor folks you even helped a few.
Yet there is one major thing lacking,
Which all your deeds just cannot buy,
You see, that is exactly the reason,
Why for you I willingly chose to die.
But you so foolishly spurned my gift,
Worldly things deceived your heart,
So as truly tragic as it may now be,
From my presence you must depart.

Bible Study Resources:
"And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions."
